There is Mozart in the March 23 concert - what is the More?

Pam Hahn with Vanja Gjumar Nikolovski

Maestro Nikolovski has put together an interesting concert for you this month. I asked him about his programming choices.

PH:  The March 23 concert has an extremely varied program. The Mozart Concerto for Flute and Harp was composed in 1778, Kenneth Fuchs completed his Rush for Alto Saxophone in 2012 and César Franck wrote his Symphony in D minor in 1888. How important is it to include music from different times and styles to our concerts?

VGN:  I think is very important for the audience to follow the evolution of classical music, how it developed during the centuries. Performing music from different time give people opportunity to find more appropriate and enjoyable style, so they can truly be amused by certain composer, not even knowing him before they heard his/her music.

PH:  Which of these three pieces is the most challenging for the orchestra, and what makes it so?

VGN:  <meta charset="UTF-8"/>All three pieces have a lot to offer, most likely the Fuchs piece is the most challenging piece, because of the variety of different rhythms, and newer style not so familiar to the orchestra.

PH:  <meta charset="UTF-8"/>If you could sit down for coffee with one of these composers, which one would it be, and what would you talk about?

VGN:  This time I would certainly sit down for coffee with Kenneth Fuchs, discussing overall about composition, asking him about his main inspirational sources, and the special reason why is he using saxophone in his very successful piece.
